Identifying and Reporting Abuse

Identifying Abuse

STOP IT NOW! is a national organization dedicated to the prevention and treatment of child sexual abuse. Order their booklet, “Because There Is A Way . . .” [ . . . to prevent Child Sexual Abuse: Facts about Abuse and Those Who Might Commit It.] from:

The Safer Society Press
P. O. Box 340
Barndon, VT 05733-0340
802-247-3132

Please visit their web site for an excellent list of behavioral warning signs that a child may have been abused. Some of these behavioral signs can show up at other stressful times in a child’s life. Any one sign doesn’t mean the child was abused, but several of them mean that you should begin asking questions.

This site also offers warning signs to watch out for when adults are with children.

The web site for warning signs is:

You can also contact STOP IT NOW!at their toll-free helpline, 1-888-PREVENT.
You can contact the local (Philadelphia) STOP IT NOW! organization through the JJ Peters Institute, 215-701-1560.
