Impact Report
July 1, 2024 — June 30, 2025

Hello, Friends!

We are so happy to share our 2025 Impact Report for the Philadelphia Children’s Alliance. To our individual donors, corporate sponsors, and partners, we want to say thank you for supporting us through our historic 35th year of PCA.

In 1985, the first Child Advocacy Center opened its doors in Huntsville, Alabama, as a direct response to the mistreatment of child abuse cases, leading victims to repeated and stressful interactions with city and state officials. Children who have been the victims of sexual abuse need exceptional, specialized care… and children who have these stories should only ever have to tell them once.

Four years after the nation's first CAC was opened, the Department of Human Services, the District Attorney’s Office, the Philadelphia Police Department’s Special Victims Unit, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and the Support Center for Child Advocates began discussions to create a CAC here in Philadelphia. Our community’s children deserved the level of excellent care only offered by a child advocacy center. Our community deserved the Philadelphia Children’s Alliance.

Over these last 35 years, PCA has maintained its commitment to excellence that started in 1989, constantly evolving and expanding to meet the needs of a growing community. From starting our first Bear Affair fundraiser in 2000, to joining the Philadelphia Safety Collaborative in 2013, to opening our very first satellite location this year at Braid Mill in Germantown, PCA has made the strides necessary to be a leading CAC in the region.

But excellence in the field of child advocacy doesn’t happen by accident. It takes dedication, collaboration, innovation, and supporters like you! As we reflect on this milestone 35th year, we are reminded that without our network of advocates, donors, volunteers, sponsors, and partners in prevention, PCA would be unable to offer consistent and high-level services to every child who walks through our doors.

As always, we hope to continue our partnership with you on behalf of the children that we serve, as we strive towards another 35 years of providing healing and justice to the children and families of Philadelphia.

OUR CHILDREN. OUR CITY.
OUR MISSION.

The Philadelphia Children’s Alliance’s mission is to lead a coordinated response to achieve safety, healing, justice, and prevention for children and families impacted by the adverse childhood experiences of sexual abuse, exploitation, and violence.

PCA, founded in 1989, was an outgrowth of the Philadelphia Law Enforcement Child Abuse Project which was concerned about the increasing number of child sexual abuse reports.

Since its creation PCA has expanded the number of 0 — 18 year-old children it serves from 30 a month to more than 170; increased its staff from 4 to 48; grown its facilities from a 3,300 foot office space with one interview room to a 40,000 square foot building which houses not only PCA staff, but also PCA’s multidisciplinary team members, the Police Department’s Special Victims Unit, the Department of Human Services Sexual Abuse Unit, and District Attorney staff; and added mental health therapy, a medical clinic in partnership with St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children andChildren’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and services for criminally sexually exploited children to its forensic interview and victim advocate programs to its programs.

PREVENTION & EDUCATION

The Philadelphia Children’s Alliance's Prevention Program is a catalyst for bringing community partners together to support the needs of our families, in addition to the enhancing community awareness of child sexual abuse by building out our capacity to provide adult-focused training.

PCA facilitates Stewards of Children®, an evidenced-informed prevention training designed to help adults prevent, recognize, and react appropriately to child sexual abuse.  The training is two hours and features survivor stories, experts in the field, and other concerned individuals all providing practical guidance to prevent child sexual abuse.

Fundraising Spotlights

The 25th Annual Bear Affair, held at the National Constitution Center saw nearly 500 guests come to support PCA’s historic 35th year, and honor our advocates Jordan and Niki Mailata. Together we raised over $320,000 to provide resources to continue our necessary work at no cost to the families we serve.

As the beneficiary of the
Greater Philadelphia Insurance Industry’s Annual Softball League, which culminates in a tournament each July at Edgley Field, PCA has received more than half a million dollars since 2011. During FY25, over 30 insurance companies raised over $70,000 in general operating funds to support our work for children and their families.

Each fall at the Springhaven Country Club in Wallingford, over 20 insurance companies from the Philadelphia region get together to support PCA at Aon’s annual golf outing. This financial year, they raised over $58,000 in general operating support for PCA.

This October, Mt. Pisgah AME Church hosted their second Annual 5K walk/run to benefit PCA. Hosted by board of directors member Ingrid Broadnax, over two dozen community members, staff, and volunteers raised over $1000 in support of PCA.

"Because of the support from PCA, I am taking with me forgiveness of myself, strength, and a better understanding of how I can best support my children. This trauma will not define who we are and I will continue to believe that we will be okay.."

Caregiver

Mental Health Partners

Philadelphia Children's Alliance has partnerships with organizations across the city to provide the best and most accessible care for the thousands of children who require

trauma therapy every year.

PCA’s Family Advocates work closely with caregivers throughout the entire process

to find the best individualized care for each child.

Family Advocates have forged close partnerships with partner agencies and they

are able to follow-up with the agencies and the caregivers to ensure children are

receiving the treatment they need.

Advocacy Highlights

Spreading awareness and advocating for change and justice for victims of child sexual abuse is a huge part of the work that PCA is committed to each year.

PCA honored Child Abuse Prevention Month in April, which kicked off with the annual Pinwheel Planting, which spreads awareness by covering the entranceway to PCA's office with pinwheels, which represent survivors and victims of child sex abuse.

In October of 2024, PCA welcomed multi-disciplinary partners, lawmakers and their teams for a legislative breakfast.

Northeast Regional
Children's Advocacy Center

Northeast Regional Children’s Advocacy Center (NRCAC) is a federal grant managed by PCA that supports and enhances the important work of professionals helping child abuse victims.

Funded by a $1.25 million grant from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, a component of the Office of Justice Programs within the U.S. Department of Justice, NRCAC

provides training, technical assistance, and products and resources for developing and growing multidisciplinary teams, local Children’s Advocacy Centers, and State Chapter organizations of Children’s Advocacy Centers within the Northeast Region of the United States.

NRCAC also works collaboratively with other VOCAA (Victim of Child Abuse Act) partners in meeting the needs of professionals regionally and nationally.
