"Laura's" Story
Age 11, Mount Airy
Hear Rayna Smaller, LSW,PCA’s Family Advocate and
Caregiver Support Group Coordinator, describe the role
of family advocates in a child’s journey with PCA.
Laura struggled for several years before being hospitalized for a mental health crisis and referred to PCA.
It was at her forensic interview when Laura was first able to reveal that her uncle was sexually assaulting her.
As a survivor herself, Laura’s mother was painfully aware of the impact of sexual violence,
but had no idea what steps to take to ensure her child got the help that she never had.
All of her questions were answered when Laura and her mother came to PCA.
From intake, to therapy, to caregiver support and court accompaniment services,
Laura and her mother were both able to move beyond their trauma.
